About Dr. Lecheler
Dr. Lecheler (pronounced Lek-ler) was born and raised in La Crosse, WI. He completed his undergraduate training with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and received a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from Chicago’s Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine (now part of the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science). After completing residency training at the Mesquite Medical Center in Dallas and the VA Medical Center in Temple, TX, he practiced podiatric medicine and surgery in Dallas, TX, and Tampa, FL.
In 2002, Dr. Lecheler and his wife, Ruth moved to New Smyrna Beach, FL, where he started his private practice. In 2009, he trained with Diversified Clinical Services in advanced wound care with a focus on closure of non-healing wounds. He has worked at the Florida Hospital New Smyrna Wound Care Center using advanced modalities such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy, wound-vac therapy, and new skin grafting procedures.
Having lost his grandfather to a preventable diabetic foot wound, Dr. Lecheler places significant value on education and prevention; both of which are key components of his practice philosophy. He regularly gives public lectures on general foot and ankle health, common ailments, and peripheral neuropathy. He also lectures monthly at the Diabetic Education Program at Florida Hospital New Smyrna.
Dr. Lecheler has surgical privileges at Florida Hospital New Smyrna and Florida Hospital Memorial Center in Ormond. He is also the on-call podiatrist at Florida Hospital New Smyrna. He is an active member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, the Florida Podiatric Medical Association, and the Volusia County Podiatric Medical Association.

He has successfully treated thousands of diabetic wound patients by administering preventative care, wound debridement, off-loading modalities, antibiotic therapy, total contact casting, dressings, and, when necessary, surgical limb salvage techniques.
Dr. Lecheler's patients are offered up-to-date medical and surgical services. Our goal is to provide you with the highest quality foot and ankle care possible. One way we do this is by incorporating appropriate technological advances and medical findings as soon as they become available. Another way is by providing a friendly environment where dialog is encouraged and your questions are answered.
We see patients on an appointment basis so please call to reserve a time. We make every effort to honor time commitments and ask that you extend us the same courtesy. If you make an appointment and find that you cannot make it or need to reschedule, we ask that you give us at least 24 hours notice. On occasion, emergencies occur and, whenever possible, you will be informed of potential time delays.
We recognize that you can have an urgent care situation arise, and we do our best to respond promptly. We ask that you please call us as early in the day as possible.
Fees and Insurance
Our fees are very competitive and are based on reasonable and customary charges for similar services in Florida.
Medicare and most non-HMO insurances are accepted. Co-payments are due at time of visit. If your deductible has not been met, full payment for services rendered is due at time of visit.
We bill your insurance company directly. In many cases, we will agree to wait for the insurance company to pay before sending you a statement for the unpaid balance. However, it is important to remember that whatever portion of services not paid by your insurance is your responsibility.
Health insurance is a contract between you and your insurance company. It is a good idea to know your coverage. We will assist you in obtaining all of the benefits for which you are eligible and entitled, but ultimately, it is up to you and your insurance company.
